Izola Project

The community and children going to schools across the Phophonyane River will have an easier and safer crossing to the river. Income generating projects will be at an advantage as more people will access their business especially the cooperatives that sell vegetables since Luyengweni is common with agriculture. The project will assist the local community to reach schools (St Christopher’s, Malkerns Valley), clinic, churches, agricultural fields, shopping center. The bridge will also connect the community to the nearest bus station to board buses to different destinations.

The project will also reduce the danger of the local community from falling and injuring themselves.

PROJECT

Members have displayed their commitment and motivation by collecting stones and river sand to be used during construction. Project sustainability will be ensured as those who make a living through selling homemade wares and farming will be able to easily carry their goods across the footbridge. Sustainable development goals will be achieved as the project will aid school children to cross, thus giving them access to education.  The project will be maintained through the maintenance fund.

IMPACT

After completion, the incidence of injuries and drowning children will be reduced and there will be job creation as more local communities will be able to transport their goods across foot bridges to sell their fresh fruits and vegetables since most community members earn their living through farming.

The local community will also save on travel time as children will be able to cross in time for school thus improvement in performance.
